Housebound

Today is the first day of Spring, and I’m in a state of golden retriever haired, snow-bound sluggishness.

I’ve been baking a bit lately, and unfortunately eating it. I think that after my appointment with my doctor this afternoon that my baking habit will be coming to an end. If I could remove my flannel pants or sweatpants and wear denim or something else without give in the fabric, I think it would improve my diet, if you know what I mean.

Well, until my appointment, I’m going back to my knitting needle and yarn laziness. Where’s the cake?

Black and White

I am having the most perfect snow day. I woke up to a foot of snow, and the electricity is still on. Coffee in all its smokey goodness. The heater was billowing warm air. My computer works. I am able to read under the yellow lamp glow…

But, first I took a walk in the feathery perfection to take pictures.

I seem to be having a problem uploading pictures, and I have more to add. I want all of you to see how beautiful and peaceful it is here today. I guess your imagination will have to fill in the blanks. It is quiet… no traffic, and no snow plows. Just sleeping Golden Retrievers and the quiet whisper of pages turning as I’m reading my book.

I hope your day is as peaceful.

I Do Believe… I DO!!

I’ve been hybernating. Could you tell? I’ve had a bit of upset in my life, and it’s pretty much private. Hurtful people, and hurtful things have happened to those I love. I no longer have those hurtful people around, and I am much better for it. Hurtful things for those I love are another matter, that is out of my control, and for a control freak it’s a problem.  The End.

Now! On to better things…

Where were we? I have a finished sweater to show you…

I have a completed quilt top…

Socks off of the needles…

AND…drumroll please. We are having a new puppy! He/she will be born around tax day, and I just can’t wait! I’ve wanted another puppy for a long time, and this one is very special. I won’t bore you with the details now, but they will be coming.

One more thing. I’ve been gone for so long that a new and wonderful thing has come into my life that I haven’t commented on. PINTEREST!!  Oh, my!! Addicted in a big way. So fun. Here are my boards   http://pinterest.com/sissyjane/

Busy

Before I really start this post, I want to acknowledge 9/11. I know that I will never forget!

We are having thunder and lightning, and thankfully rain. As you know I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and we’re in prime fire country. Keep your fingers crossed for us, as this weather is supposed to continue for a few days. Right now, I’m loving it! I love the smell of rain when I can have the windows opened!

I’m sorry that I’ve ignored my blog, but I’ve been so busy with other things… My granddaughters have been for a visit!

My vegetable garden is producing like mad. We’ve finally had tomatoes. The zucchini is overflowing my harvest basket. My knitting is flying off of the needles. The Halloween projects are moving ahead! The Autumn decorating has begun!

It’s just so busy…

My Bookgroup

Today was the monthly Bookgroup meeting… Our book wasn’t really interesting, but we did discuss reorganizing our structure. Instead of the hostess picking the book, they will be chosen in advance. I think it’s so much better than the way we have been doing it.  Now it will be more of a group decision. At least if I hate the book, it will be partially my fault… I also won’t feel the pressure when group is at my house. Well, at least not all the pressure. I don’t think anyone is coming to help me clean and cook before the meeting….

We also decided to increase our group by one, and my friend Chrys is joining us!!

Sewing

Now I bet that some of you think I’ve just been playing all Summer. You are partly right…For example I went hiking this morning with my hiking group. We talk so much that we forget to look at the beauty surrounding us. That’s how friends are!

I have been knitting and I’m almost done with my Crayon Box Jacket.

Mine is rather colorful, as I’ve shown you in a previous post. Anyway…I’m almost done! I hope to have it done in a few days, and I can hardly wait to share it. I’m still deciding if I am going to knit Autumn leaves to sew onto it. I may need an opinion from you, so start thinking.

I have been sewing clothing this Summer, and I have three finished projects. My pictures didn’t turn out very well, but I’ll show them to you anyway. This dress is a Sew serendipity Design, and I love, love, love her patterns. They fit correctly, and the directions a clear.

The skirt is Sew Serendipity as well. I love all of the details, and different fabrics.

This pink dress is just a fun, loose cool sun dress, and I love the icy pink color. It just looks like raspberries.

Have a great day. I’m off to the sewing room!

Our Backyard

We had a wonderful day today! After walking our dogs, we had a fabulous frittata with eggs from the Farmers Market. We watered the gardens-perennial and vegetable.

And then…

We took a drive up Highway 108.  There are wildflowers everywhere. We have had a warm-not HOT Summer! It is so Beautiful! Nothing is fried. The flowers, plants and trees are not in dormant save yourself mode…

Kennedy Meadows http://www.kennedymeadows.com/ was our goal, and it was so beautiful! (the cowboys didn’t hurt). We had lunch on the deck, and wandered over to the sparkling river, for a short hike. There were thistles…Did I mention the Cowboys?

Anyway… after our hike and lunch, we wandered back down the pass. We turned into the Donnell Vista overview. It had been refurbished. Redone. Done over.

The paths are now paved! The hike is easy, and oh so beautiful! Quite frankly, it was breathtaking. I don’t even know how far we were above the turquoise water of Donnell reservoir… I had to hold on to the railing with one shakey hand and my hat with the other. I can’t believe that we haven’t seen this before.

What were we thinking? You really can’t tell from this perspective, but my camera was pointed straight down. I felt like I was a mile above this turquiose and granite perfection!
